“Road trip tayo!” (Let’s go on a road trip!”) This is what your barkadas usually jest about whenever they’re in your car. And whether your ride is a hulking SUV like the Toyota Fortuner or nifty yet comfy one like those Toyota Wigo’s that are so popular in the Philippines and elsewhere, it would be a shame not to take up the challenge.
So if you and your gang are itching to hit the road and go somewhere nice for a change, then here’s a list of awesome spots in the Philippines you should seriously consider.
Baguio City, Benguet
Going beyond its reputation as the Philippines’ summer capital, Baguio is a great place to visit all year round. Its cold-mountain weather makes the city perfect for chilling out and relaxing, with a cup or two of your favorite hot beverage to cool you during nighttimes.
Of course, there are more things to do in Baguio the morning. Check out the grandiosity and elegance of The Mansion, the official summer rest house of the President of the Philippines. Go horseback riding if you’re a rough-and-tumble adventurous kind of group. If your squad prefers having laidback time with nature, then visit one of their parks like the Burnham Park, the Wright Park, and the Mines View Park. You can even visit the Laperal White House, which happens to be Baguio’s most haunted place.
If you’re not the type who’s into chilly places, preferring some sand, sea, and surfing instead, then Baler, Aurora is where you should be.
Sitting on Luzon’s eastern coast, Baler directly faces the strong waves of the Pacific Ocean, making them perfect for surfing. It is the very reason why it has become one of the most popular surfing spots, both in the country and in the rest of the world. But there’s more to Baler than just catching a wave or two. In fact, because of its natural beauty and historical significance, more and more people are flocking this quiet and remote town.
One of the most urbanized places outside of Metro Manila is Subic, Zambales. But despite seeming like just another city, Subic is able to maintain its natural heritage—and make a few ones in the process as well!
In daytimes, you should pay a visit to the Zoobic Safari, where you get to see tigers, lions, wildebeests, and camels, just to name a few, as well as Ocean Adventure, where exotic marine life thrive in aquariums and marine mammals like killer whales, seals, and dolphins perform a trick or two to great applause. And when the sun sets, you should check out the many bars and clubs found in the city. Drink, listen to live bands, dance, and enjoy! If you think it’s pointless to travel many miles just to do the same thing in the Metro, then you should know that the crowd here is completely different.
Yes, these destinations can be pretty far. Nevertheless, traveling there is worth it! Not only would you have a very enjoyable and wonderful time in these beautiful and exciting road trip spots, but you’ll also get to share priceless memories you’re your barkadas.
